Description

1-Propyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione is a heterocyclic compound that is an analog of indole. It has two stereoisomers: the erythro form (1R) and the threo form (1S). The erythro form is more stable than the threo form because of its steric hindrance. This substance has been shown to be a potential precursor to the synthesis of other heterocycles such as carbazoles, benzothiazoles, and benzofurans. 1-Propyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione can be prepared by nitroalkene reduction followed by reaction with propylene oxide or propylene glycol. This chemical is also used in optical and spectrometric applications due to its optical properties.
