3-Pyridin-4-ylpropyl)amine is a potent hydrophobic inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS). It binds to the cysteine residues of TNF-α with a potency similar to that of other substituents, such as N-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)propionamide. 3-Pyridin-4-ylpropyl)amine also inhibits urea synthesis and protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes. This drug has been shown to be effective against bacterial infections caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex.
