4-Phenylpiperazine-1-carboximidamide sulfate (4PCI) is a potential radiolabeled ligand for use in positron emission tomography and single photon emission computed tomography. It has been shown to be an electrophilic molecule that reacts with benzene and chloramine-T, which are used as electron acceptors. 4PCI is also a potent inhibitor of the uptake of iodinated compounds by the thyroid gland, adrenal glands, and kidneys, so it has been used to study the biodistribution of radiopharmaceuticals. Biodistribution studies have shown that 4PCI is taken up by the adrenomedullary system in rats and mice.
