Description

1-Phenylmethanesulfonohydrazide is a reagent that inhibits the biosynthesis of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. It has been used for the synthesis of peptides and polypeptides. 1-Phenylmethanesulfonohydrazide can be used as an inhibitor in experiments that explore the biosynthesis of natural products by microbial organisms. This compound also inhibits oxidative enzymes such as cysteine synthase and lysine oxidase, which are involved in the formation of alkenes and olefins, respectively. 1-Phenylmethanesulfonohydrazide has also been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by blocking pyrimidine synthesis, thereby preventing DNA replication and transcription.
