Description

4-Phenyl-5-pyridin-4-yl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol is a piperazine derivative that has antibacterial properties. It binds to the triazole ring of bacterial DNA gyrase, which prevents the unwinding of DNA strands and thus inhibits DNA synthesis. This compound is soluble in acidic solvents and exhibits strong antibacterial activity against certain Gram positive bacteria. It can be used to inhibit the growth of mycobacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex. 4-Phenylpyridinethiol has also been shown to have antiinflammatory effects by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
