Description

5,5'-((Propane-2,2-diylbis(4,1-phenylene))bis(oxy))bis(isobenzofuran-1,3-dione) (PIBI) is a new activated crosslinker that is soluble in organic solvents. PIBI forms crosslinked polymers with high thermal stability and good mechanical properties. The activation of PIBI can be achieved by heating the monomers or by irradiation with UV light. PIBI has been used for various materials including hydrophobic coatings on surfaces and as an additive to improve the transport properties of polydimethylsiloxane. The polymerization kinetics of PIBI are well known and can be simulated using computational methods such as DFT calculations. PIBI contains functional groups that are typical for macromolecules, such as methylbenzene groups and phenyl groups.
