Name:
2-Phenyl-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid
Synonyms:
  • 2-Phenylthiazole-4-Carboxylic Acid
  • 2-Phenyl-1,3-Thiazole-4-Carboxylic Acid
  • 2-Phenyl-1,3-Thiazole-4-Carboxylate
Description:

2-Phenyl-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid is a regiospecific analogue of the anticancer drug thiostrepton. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of p-glycoprotein and multidrug resistance protein in vitro. 2PTCA is a potent inhibitor of xanthine oxidase, which is an enzyme involved in purine metabolism and production of reactive oxygen species. 2PTCA also inhibits cell proliferation in vivo and induces apoptosis in hepg2 cells. The mechanism by which 2PTCA causes these effects is not yet known but may involve interference with signal transduction from the cell surface to the nucleus.
