Propyl benzoate is an organic compound that belongs to the group of esters. It is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor and taste. Propyl benzoate is used as a solvent in the manufacture of polypropylene glycol, as well as in the production of plastics and resins. This chemical has hydroxyl functional groups that react with other compounds to form hydrogen bonding interactions, while its C-C double bond can undergo a transfer reaction or be converted into an ethylene diamine. Propyl benzoate has been used as a solid catalyst for the preparation of nepeta cataria extract, which emits light when oxidized by oxygen.
