Propan-2-one oxime is a cyclase inhibitor that has been shown to be effective against infectious diseases. It binds to the active site of cyclases and blocks the formation of the reactive intermediate, which is required for the conversion of acetone to water vapor. Propan-2-one oxime has been shown to inhibit human serum cyclase and xanthine oxidase in vitro. This compound also inhibits pluripotent cells from differentiating into erythrocytes, hepatocytes, or muscle cells, but does not inhibit differentiation of other cell types such as fibroblasts or epithelial cells. Propan-2-one oxime can be used in conjunction with anhydrous sodium acetate and methyl ethyl ketone to produce a Langmuir adsorption isotherm that can be used for calculating the surface area of adsorbent materials.
