Description

1-Phenylpiperidine-4-carboxylic acid is a non-steroidal agent that has been shown to reduce blood glucose in animal models. It also reduces postprandial glucose levels and improves insulin sensitivity. This compound binds to the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) and inhibits glucagon secretion, leading to an increase in insulin release. 1-Phenylpiperidine-4-carboxylic acid has a high lipophilicity and is metabolised by CYP3A4. It can be used as a starting point for optimization of oral glucose lowering drugs with greater potential for activity and less toxicity than existing treatments.
