4-(Pyridin-2-yl)butanoic acid is a benzylpyridine derivative that has been shown to bind selectively to the histamine H2 receptor. It has an affinity for this receptor that is greater than its affinity for other known histamine receptors, such as the H1 and H3 receptors. The histamine H2 receptor is found in the brain, heart, and gastrointestinal tract. 4-(Pyridin-2-yl)butanoic acid has been shown to have antagonistic activity against the histamine H2 receptor.
