Pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5(1H)-one is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be an activator of the enzyme glutaminase in the body, which breaks down glutamine. The activation of this enzyme leads to increased levels of glutamate and ammonia in the brain, which can lead to neurotoxicity. Pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5(1H)-one has also been shown to have a number of pharmacokinetic properties including being able to cross the blood brain barrier and reducing the time taken for drugs to reach their target site. It is also found in strains of tuberculosis bacteria.
