Pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5(4H)-one is a synthetic compound that is used to treat tuberculosis. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of tuberculosis and has also been shown to have a pharmacokinetic profile that is similar to other drugs for the treatment of tuberculosis. Pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5(4H)-one inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. It also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and blocking translation. The drug can be synthesized from malonic acid or boronic acids, which are introduced into the molecule through nucleophilic substitution reactions with the lactam ring. This process starts with debromination of the bromine atom by reaction with hydroxide ion or sodium methoxide in methanol or ethanol.
