1H-Pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine-5-carbonitrile is a conjugate of pyrrolopyridine and cuprous cyanide. It can be dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol or acetone. 1H-Pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine-5-carbonitrile has been shown to inhibit the growth of glioma cells in culture and may be used as a potential treatment for cancer. This compound has also been shown to have proton transfer properties when it is exposed to light. The quantum efficiency of 1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine-5-carbonitrile was measured to be 0.74%.
