It has been shown to inhibit the formation of 6-phosphate in tubule cells. This inhibition leads to renal toxicity and may be due to its ability to catalyze primary alcohols into chloroacetone and malate. Potassium oxirane-2-carboxylate is an organosilicon compound that can be used as a catalyst for enzymatic reactions, such as dehydrogenation.
