Description

1-Pyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridine-2-carboxylic acid is a cannabinoid type drug that has been evaluated for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. It has high potency and is a potent CB1 agonist. 1HPCA binds to the CB2 receptor with a high affinity and is able to induce an increase in intracellular calcium levels. It also activates the peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPARs). The activity of this compound is due to its structural similarity to endocannabinoids such as anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol. 1HPCA can be used as a replacement for these substances when they are not available or in situations where they cannot be administered, such as in patients with liver disease.
