Pyrimidin-4-ylmethanol (4PM) is a subunit of RNA that is an emergent guanine. It has been shown to be protonated and irradiated, which affects its ability to bind with other molecules. 4PM also binds with proteins and plays a role in cell signaling pathways, splicing, prebiotic synthesis, and abiotic synthesis. 4PM is not found in the nucleic acid of all organisms, but it is found in the purine nucleic acid of some organisms. The informational function of 4PM is unknown. It may be involved in biosynthesis or localization.
