2-Pyridyl tribromomethylsulfone (2PTBM) is a magnetic and elemental analysis product. It has been used as a transfer catalyst in the synthesis of sodium hypochlorite. Elemental analysis showed that the product consists of 3% bromine, 1% chlorine, and 98% sulfur. The spectrum of 2PTBM is a doublet at 8.5 ppm with a coupling constant of 10 Hz. The glycol content was found to be less than 0.1%. The dichloropyridine reaction time for the synthesis of 2PTBM was found to be less than 5 hours. Magnetic resonance spectra show peaks at 6 and 11 ppm, which correspond to the protons on the two pyridyl rings in 2PTBM.
