2-Propoxyphenol is a molecule that belongs to the class of phenols. It is found in plants and is a major component of propolis, which is used as an alternative medicine for the treatment of wounds and infections. 2-Propoxyphenol has a homologous structure with other phenolic compounds and can be converted into p-coumaric acid by demethylation. This compound also has ferulic acid, which can be converted into p-coumaric acid by hydroxylation. 2-Propoxyphenol has shown inhibitory effects on the growth of Moraxella sp., which may be due to its ability to compete with cytochrome P450 enzymes for binding sites on the enzyme's heme prosthetic group.
