Product Information
- 4-Pentenoic acid chloride
- Pent-4-Enoyl Chloride
4-Pentenoylchloride is an unsaturated alkyl with a fatty acid group. This chemical is used in the synthesis of 4-pentenoic acid, which can be used as a feedstock for the production of other chemicals. The compound can also be used to synthesize hydroxamic acids, such as 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and 3-hydroxybenzoic acid. The chloride in this chemical has been shown to form chloroform and dichloromethane when reacted with alcohols, which are both organic solvents. 4-Pentenoylchloride can be used to acylate cellulose acetate to make cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB), which is then used to make films and coatings. Another use of this compound is in animal tissue analysis, where it acts as a functional group that can be detected by nmr spectroscopy.
