Product Information
- Piperazine-1-sulfonic acid dimethylamide
- N,N-dimethylpiperazine-1-sulfonamide
Piperazine-1-sulfonic acid, dimethylamide is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme dehydrogenase that has been shown to normalize blood glucose levels in diabetic rats. It is also an inhibitor of sorbitol dehydrogenase and has been shown to alleviate diabetic neuropathy in rats by inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species. The active site of piperazine-1-sulfonic acid, dimethylamide contains a catalytic cysteine residue that is essential for its activity. This compound belongs to the family of inhibitors which are competitive inhibitors with respect to their substrate, sorbitol.
