Description

Piperidine-2-thione is a sulfide that is synthesized by the dehydration of 2-hydroxypiperidine. It has been used in the synthesis of various pyridine and quinolizidine alkaloids. Piperidine-2-thione has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the synthesis of various molecules, such as α,β-unsaturated ketones and β-aminoethyl esters. It also has a stereoselective nature, which means it can be used to create molecules with desired stereochemistry. The protonated form of piperidine-2-thione has been shown to react with hydrogen bonds in a molecule in order to form new hydrogen bonds.
