Pyridin-2-ol is a hydrogen bonding agent that inhibits bacterial growth. It binds to the DNA and RNA of bacteria, forming intramolecular hydrogen bonds, which prevents the formation of complementary base pairs and therefore prevents bacterial replication. The kinetic energy of the reaction can be calculated using the response element. Pyridin-2-ol has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in a model system with tautomers and nitrogen atoms in x-ray crystal structures. This compound has also been shown to have inhibitory properties against transfer reactions involving coordination geometry, such as picolinic acid.
