It can be used to synthesize 1H-pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyridin-6-one and related nitrones. This compound has been shown to be an excellent precursor for the synthesis of benzyl and related intermediates. The trifluoromethanesulfonate salt of 1H-pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyridine-6-carboxylic acid is a synthetic intermediate that can be used as a catalyst for the synthesis of resorcinol by oxidation.
