Description

3-Piperidineacetic acid is a piperidine compound that inhibits the uptake of GABA into brain cells. It has been shown to inhibit the transport of GABA by competitively binding to the pyridinium component of the transporter and blocking access to the substrate. 3-Piperidineacetic acid also inhibits bacterial efflux pumps, which are proteins on the cell membrane that expel antibiotics from inside the bacterial cell. 3-Piperidineacetic acid has been shown to potentiate some fluoroquinolones, such as ciprofloxacin, by inhibiting bacterial efflux pumps and preventing them from removing these antibiotics from inside the bacterial cell.
