(S)-3-Phenylpiperidine is an intramolecular hydrogen that acts as a dopamine receptor agonist. It binds to the dopamine receptor, blocking the uptake of dopamine and thus increasing its concentration in the body. This drug is used in animals to study the effects of dopamine on locomotor activity and has shown promising results in humans for treating Parkinson's disease. (S)-3-Phenylpiperidine has been shown to have inhibitory properties on 5-HT receptors and has been shown to be a 5-HT agonist at the human liver receptor. It may also have potential as a pharmacological treatment for depression.
