1-(Pyridin-4-yl)ethanol is a chiral compound that can be synthesized from two optically active starting materials, which are myoglobin and diethyl ether. It has been shown to react with triazolium salts under acidic conditions in ethanolic solution, forming stable complexes. When the reaction proceeds in a solvent such as chloroform or diethyl ether, it produces aldehydes as products. The pyridinium salt of 1-(pyridin-4-yl)ethanol is also reactive with lipase and amines, leading to an increase in the rate of the reaction.
