Description

1-(Piperidin-1-ylmethyl)naphthalen-2-ol is a piperidine analog that blocks the action of acetylcholine at the postsynaptic membrane. It is a potent and selective antagonist of muscarinic receptors. 1-(Piperidin-1-ylmethyl)naphthalen-2-ol has been shown to decrease blood pressure in anesthetized rats by blocking the vagus nerve, and can be used as a tool for studying the role of acetylcholine in hypertension. 1-(Piperidin-1-ylmethyl)naphthalen-2-ol also has antiarrhythmic properties, which may be due to its ability to block proton channels.
