(1-Phenylcyclopropyl)methanamine is a potent and selective covalent inhibitor of the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase. The compound inhibits cellular growth by inducing apoptosis in many types of cancer cells, including leukemia cells. (1-Phenylcyclopropyl)methanamine has shown anticancer potential as a potent, selective, and covalent inhibitor of tyrosine hydroxylase. It is a cell-permeable inhibitor that binds to the active site of the enzyme and prevents its activity. The potency of this compound was measured using an assay that measures cellular proliferation in the nanomolar range. (1-Phenylcyclopropyl)methanamine also inhibits other oxidases, such as xanthine oxidase and cyclooxygenase, which may contribute to its antiproliferative effect.
