Product Information
2,4-Pyrrolidinedione is an activator of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) that has been shown to be more potent than rapamycin. It binds to the FKBP12 protein and blocks phosphorylation of mTOR by the protein kinase Akt. 2,4-Pyrrolidinedione has been shown to inhibit growth in a variety of oral pathogens, including Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans, and tumour cell lines. It also inhibits filamentous fungus such as Aspergillus fumigatus. This drug has been used for biochemical analysis in yeast cells and mouse embryonic fibroblasts.
2,4-Pyrrolidinedione is synthesized from pyrrole with a double bond between carbons 3 and 4 in the presence of hydrogen gas and palladium catalyst. The molecule can exist as two geometric isomers: cis or trans forms; only one form
