Description:
Pivaloyl cyanide is a cyanide that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It has an aromatic ring with a phenyl group and two nitro groups. Pivaloyl cyanide can be synthesized by reacting sodium hydroxide solution with diphenyl ether in the presence of chlorine and nitrogen gas. The vibrational spectrum of this compound shows two peaks at 1550 cm-1 and 1580 cm-1, which correspond to the stretching vibrations of the C=N bond in the nitro group.
