Description:

2-Propenoic acid is a reactive chemical that is used as a cross-linking agent in the preparation of pharmaceuticals. It reacts with hydroxyl groups on proteins to form esters and other types of covalent bonds. 2-Propenoic acid has been used as a cross-linking agent in the production of ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses, and other types of pharmaceutical preparations. This chemical also has been used to produce polymeric materials that are resistant to atmospheric oxidation. 2-Propenoic acid can be used as a viscosity modifier or cross-coupling agent for organic synthesis reactions. It has been shown to have a synergistic effect when combined with radiation energy in the synthesis of polymers from monomers. 2-Propenoic acid is active at room temperature and does not require the use of an inert solvent such as ether or benzene for its reactivity.
