Potassium hydrogen DL-aspartate is a form of aspartate that contains potassium. It is used in pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Potassium hydrogen DL-aspartate has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting phosphodiesterase activity, which reduces the production of prostaglandins. The drug also has a beneficial effect on cardiac function by increasing fatty acid oxidation and reducing lipolysis in ventricular myocytes. This drug is not active against paramyxoviruses or women with sarcoplasmic myopathy.
