Description

Piperidine-4-boronic acid pinacol ester is an agent that inhibits the enzyme topoisomerase II. This agent is a selective inhibitor of tumor cells and has been shown to be cytotoxic in vitro on glioma cells, which are resistant to 2-nitroimidazole. Piperidine-4-boronic acid pinacol ester has also shown potent anti-cancer activity in long-term animal studies. In vivo studies have demonstrated that this agent selectively inhibits tumor growth and induces tumor regression in hypoxic tumors. Clinical trials are ongoing for the treatment of brain cancer with piperidine-4-boronic acid pinacol ester.
