Poly(sodium-p-styrenesulfonate) is a water-soluble polymer. It has been shown to be effective in the removal of dyes, organic and inorganic compounds, metals, and other pollutants from wastewater. The polymers are synthesized by reacting sodium styrene sulfonate with aqueous sodium carbonate solution. Poly(sodium-p-styrenesulfonate) is an amphoteric polymer that can form stable complexes with both acids and bases. This polymer has been used for the treatment of human serum containing high levels of nitrogen atoms.
