Product Information

Name:
(S)-(+)-4-Phenyl-2-butanol
Synonyms:
  • (2S)-4-phenylbutan-2-ol
Description:

4-Phenyl-2-butanone (4PB) is a versatile building block for synthesis of optically active compounds. 4PB is a nucleophile that can be used in the desulfurization of methyl ketones and in the stereoselective synthesis of asymmetric compounds. The enantiopure form of 4PB can be used as an intermediate for the production of amines, which are used as pharmaceuticals or building blocks for many other organic molecules. Kinetic studies have shown that 4PB reacts with oxygen nucleophiles at a rate that is second order with respect to both reactants, while it has been found to react with carbonyl reductants at first order with respect to 4PB and zero order with respect to the reducing agent.
