Phenyl selenocyanate is a molecule with a hydroxyl group. It is a very reactive compound that reacts with nucleophilic compounds such as water and ammonia to form the corresponding carbonyl chloride. Phenyl selenocyanate is also used in the synthesis of chiral derivatives, which are important for the production of pharmaceuticals. This compound has been shown to have antiviral activity against hepatitis C, although a reaction mechanism has not yet been identified. Phenyl selenocyanate has also been shown to have anticancer activity by enhancing surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and inducing apoptosis in cancer cells.
