N-Phenyl-1-naphthylamine-8-sulfonic acid sodium salt is a synthetic chemical compound that has been used as a colorant and dye. It has been shown to bind to the apigenin binding site on the estrogen receptor, which is located in the cytoplasm. This interaction may contribute to its ability to stimulate DNA synthesis and growth in vitro. The sulfonic acid group of this molecule allows it to be conjugated with other molecules such as dextrans, resulting in enhanced cellular uptake. The structure of this molecule also helps it form photoreactive complexes with aromatic amines, which may enhance its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria.
