Potassium tert-pentoxide (KOT) is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of picolinic acid. It reacts with an alcohol to form a tertiary alcohol. The reaction mechanism involves the formation of a carbocation, which can then react with another molecule of KOT to form the desired product. KOT has been shown to inhibit HIV infection in vitro and has been shown to be effective against wild-type strains of HIV. Additional research has shown that KOT inhibits the growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This can be explained by its ability to inhibit protein synthesis and cell division. Potassium tert-pentoxide solution - 1.7M In Toluene also has thermal expansion properties, which are useful for many applications such as cycle analysis, fatty acid synthesis, and chemical structures.
