Potassium tert-pentoxide (KOT) is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of picolinic acid. It reacts with an alcohol to form a tertiary alcohol. The reaction mechanism involves the formation of a carbocation, which can then react with another molecule of KOT to form the desired product.
