Description:
3-Phenoxybenzyl chloride (3PBCl) is a sodium salt that is used as a sample preparation agent. It has been found to be an effective extractant of fatty acids, chlorides and biphenyls from fats and oils. 3PBCl has been shown to be toxic to mammalian cells, inducing micronuclei formation. The cytotoxicity may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with DNA bases or the presence of active substances such as fatty acid esters and naphthalene derivatives.
