Praseodymium(III,IV) oxide is a mixed valence oxide of praseodymium and oxygen. It is a white powder with a high melting point and the property of being insensitive to oxidizing agents. This material is used in x-ray absorption spectroscopy to detect argon gas, which has an atomic weight of 40. It is also used as a molybdate standard in structural analysis, as well as in peroxide synthesis. The material can be purified by washing with an acid or base. Impurities can be removed by heating the oxide in vacuum at 300°C for 24 hours. Praseodymium(III,IV) oxide has the ability to transport anions and cations such as ferrite ions or perovskite ions. As a result, it can be used in ferrite production or as a model system for perovskite research. The compound also has interesting applications in organic chemistry due to its solubility
