Product Information
2-Propen-1-ol is a reactive molecule that undergoes a palladium-catalyzed hydrogenation reaction to form propene. It is also used in analytical toxicology as an indicator of chemical exposure. 2-Propen-1-ol undergoes the industrial conversion to propylene oxide and ethylene oxide, which are used in the production of polyurethane foams. The hydroxyl group on the 2 position of the molecule reacts with glycolaldehyde to form methylglyoxal, which can be converted into acetic acid. The photoelectron spectrum has been studied using various solvents, including nonpolar solvents such as chloroform or dichloromethane. Animal experiments have shown that 2-propene 1-ol has cytotoxic effects on cells and can cause DNA damage.
