Polyacrylate-polyalcohol is a synthetic polymer that is used in the treatment of urinary infections. It is categorized as a catheterizable antimicrobial agent and has been shown to be effective in cystourethrography in a retrospective study. Polyacrylate-polyalcohol was effective for the prevention of postoperative urinary tract infection (UTI) in urology patients with severe vesicoureteric reflux or bladder dysfunction. This agent may be more effective for female UTI patients than male UTI patients due to its higher affinity for algal dna, which is found at higher levels in females.
