3,9-Perylenedicarboxylic acid (PDCA) is a fluorinated dyestuff that can be used as a photocrosslinker in the production of polymers. It has been shown to have a high degree of photostability and to be able to produce strong fluorescence when irradiated with light. PDCA has also been used for immobilizing enzymes on solid surfaces. It has also been shown to undergo an acylation reaction with other compounds, which can be useful in making luminescent materials. PDCA is able to form semiconducting films when dissolved in solvents such as chloroform or dichloromethane. These films are useful for optical sensors and for the monitoring of chemical reactions. The PDCA molecule can also be used in predictive models for the optimization of chemical reactions.
