O-Phenylhydroxylamine hydrochloride is a magnesium oxime derivative that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other bioactive molecules. The chloride anion is introduced into the molecule, which can be prepared by a number of strategies. Dimethylformamide (DMF) and hydrogen chloride are often used as solvents for this reaction. The nitrogen atoms on the molecule are activated with heat or light and are then reacted with trifluoroacetic acid to form the final product. This method is known as synthetic preparation.
