Potassium hydrogen diiodate is a soluble, solid chemical that is an oxidizing agent. It has been used to treat potassium dichromate, hydroxide solution, and regimes. Potassium hydrogen diiodate reacts with ferroelectric material by the reaction mechanism of oxidative decomposition. It has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in plant cells and can be used as an analytical reagent for the determination of chloride ions in water samples. Potassium hydrogen diiodate is also a strong oxidizing agent that reacts with hydrochloric acid to form chlorine gas. The gas can then react with ammonia to produce nitric oxide, which is used as a biochemical research reagent.
