Phenyl(piperidin-4-yl)methanol is a 5-HT2c receptor antagonist and 5-HT2a receptor antagonist. It has been shown to inhibit phosphoinositide hydrolysis, which is the process by which phospholipids are broken down into their constituent parts. Phenyl(piperidin-4-yl)methanol has been shown to inhibit the release of serotonin in fibroblast cells, and it also inhibits the binding of serotonin to its receptors. Phenyl(piperidin-4-yl)methanol has been synthesized with a chiral structure and can be used as an optical isomer in transfections.
