1,3-Phenylenediamine dihydrochloride is a diazonium salt that contains a single intramolecular hydrogen and an intermolecular hydrogen bond. It is also a molecule with two nitrogen atoms. This compound has been shown to have transport properties in the mitochondrial membrane potential and to be involved in the redox potential of the mitochondria. 1,3-Phenylenediamine dihydrochloride reacts with hydrochloric acid to form a red-brown product that can be used as a model system for this compound. The FTIR spectrum and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of this compound shows peaks at 1677 cm-1 and -0.637 V vs Ag/AgCl respectively.
