(-)-beta-Pinene is a monoterpene that is found in many plants. It has been shown to have an effect on blood pressure and acts as a weak agonist at the l-type calcium channel. (-)-beta-Pinene also inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of primary amino acids and decreasing the amount of glycyrrhizin, an antibacterial compound found in licorice. (-)-beta-Pinene is the (S) stereoisomer of beta-pinene and can be used as a chemical pesticide or pesticide. The deuterium isotope effect can be used to distinguish between (-)-beta-pinene and other stereoisomers, such as (+)-beta-pinene.
